About Amy Engelhardt
Former bridge and tunnel kid AMY ENGELHARDT spent lots of time in rental cars from 1998-2011 as the sole female voice/primary writer/arranger for Grammy®-nominated vocal "band without instruments," The Bobs.
Amy made her Off-Broadway debut as composer/lyricist with the sold-out run of BASTARD JONES at the cell theatre in 2017; the Off-Broadway Alliance nominated the vaudeville meets rock musical hybrid for Best New Musical. Amy is also the lyricist of TESLA with Marc Acito and Everclear’s James Beaton. Other musicals include TRIPTYCH (book/music/lyrics) for the New York Transit Museum, lyrics for commissioned adaptations of Carl Sagan's CONTACT with Hungarian rocker Peter Sipos (2009 Puget Sound Theater Award – Best New Play), NICHOLAS NICKLEBY with electric violinist Eyvind Kang (Seattle’s CenterStage) and music/lyrics for the Bobs/Flying Karamazov Brothers collaboration A COMEDY OF ERAS at ACT Seattle. In 2014, Amy created TUNE IN TIME, New York City’s Musical Theater Game Show at the York Theatre (“The BMI writers workshop on steroids... musical theater, cerebral fun and games pushed to 11… a joyous, hilarious romp.”).
Amy's received MAC’s Burman Award for Songwriting and numerous BroadwayWorld Cabaret Nominations. A semi-finalist for the inaugural Ziegfeld Club Billie Burke Award for Composer/Lyricists, she recently completed a residency at the Nautilus Composer/Librettist Studio in Los Angeles.
As a session and concert singer, her diverse credits include Jurassic World, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Real Steel, Jim Henson's Animal Jam (Discovery Kids/TLC), Harry Shearer & Judith Owen’s Holiday Show (2005-2017 tours/Disney Concert Hall/BAM), the LA Bach Festival and Neil Young's Living With War. As a singer/songwriter, she’s performed extensively in LA and NY. Her solo CD, Not Gonna Be Pretty, hailed as the "unlikely and intriguing marriage of Nellie McKay and Meat Loaf," garnered multiple Just Plain Folks Awards Nominations.
A graduate of Syracuse University (Musical Theatre) and Berklee College of Music (Songwriting/ Arranging), Amy teaches songwriting, choral and vocal performance privately and in master classes. A member of SAG/AFTRA, The Dramatists Guild and ASCAP, and the only honorary female member of the Vienna Boys Choir, she splits her time between Los Angeles and New York City… and is probably somewhere over Nebraska right now hunched over a New York Times crossword.
