- Other Dementia Track events:
A couple of our returning events have changed days & times, so please make note of that everyone...
- DEMENTIA SMACKDOWN WRESTLING Friday at Midnight in the A.V. Club Room
Every year Dementia Radio DJ and pro wrestling fan Jered Perez uses the latest WWE video games to create avatars of all of the acts appearing at the MarsCon Dementia Track. Then he records them fighting against one another in a 30 minute Battle Royal to see who will be crowned the champion of “Dementia Smackdown Wrestling”! So come root for your favorite act, and witness the virtual violence and senseless slaughter for silly supremacy! Featuring live commentary by DSW commentators Commissioner J.P. Tuesday (Jered Perez) and Duke ‘Flyboy’ DuJour (Luke Ski). Snap into it! Oooh yeah!
- DEMENTIA FAN SHOWCASE Saturday at 10 AM in the Karaoke Krypt
The one and only DJ Particle will host this event that puts YOU in the spotlight! It’ll be your chance to get up in front of the crowd and show your demented stuff! Are you an up and coming dementia artist with some songs to sing? Are you a Karaoke fanatic who loves to sing your favorite funny tunes? Do you and your friends want to do a lip-sync to the latest demented hit? Then this is the show for you! If you’d like to sign up, just show up and bring any background music you need to perform with either on CD or in MP3 format on a Flash Drive. We’ll put your name in a hat along with our other participants, and we’ll pull names out at random to determine the order of our first rotation. Once we’ve gotten through the first rotation, we’ll go through it again giving people who want to more chances to perform. So bring your talent and creativity and be a Dementia Star!
- FLAT 29 PODCAST RECORDING Saturday at Noon in the Fuji panel room
Since 2009, our music Guests Of Honor Flat 29 have been doing a podcast called "Big Book Of Everything" in which they'd talk about a specific topic, and create a new song on that topic, and also do quizzes, challenges, and generally just goof around riffing on whatever comes to mind. More recently, they started a companion sketch comedy podcast called "Fistbumpin'", where they do sketches based on the previous "Big Book Of Everything" topic. Well at MarsCon, the lads are going to record some segments for future episodes of their podcasts, so you can come be in the live studio audience and join in the fun! So bring your Peri Peri Sauce, and get ready for some British accented fun!

- "TABLE 27" SEEKS VOLUNTEER
Our huge double-wide merch table for the acts of the MarsCon Dementia Track is returning once again, and we need people to staff it. In exchange for your services, you’ll get a free badge into MarsCon for the weekend. Table 27 is just outside the doors to the Main Stage room, and will be open during the Dementia Track concerts. We will do our best to make sure our volunteers don’t miss out on anything at MarsCon they really want to see or do. Our goal is to have 2 or 3 people behind the table at all times when it is open, so if we have 6 volunteers, that should be easy to figure out. So if you’re willing to give us some of your time at MarsCon to help the Dementia Track in exchange for a free weekend badge, email Jean Prior at phoenix@spundreams.net . Thanks.
~~~
- MARSCON REGISTRATION ENDS ON JANUARY 31st
Logan Awards open! MarsCon line-up announced! Funny 25! Tons of news! - Luke Ski Update 1/2/2013
Over the past year, Carrie Dahlby and I were faced with the challenge of trying to figure out how we could continue to record our fortnightly-ish podcast "Luke & Carrie's Bad Rapport" while Carrie was tending to her motherly duties with her newborn son Alex, who is now 10 months old. As Alex got older and more vocal, he also became more intrusive. Mind you, he is a very happy and well-behaved baby, but his continual squeals of joy often made the podcast frustrating to listen to. It is the assumption of Carrie and myself that there are some people who used to be regular listeners who have stopped listening because of this. Well, I am writing this paragraph to let everyone know that Carrie and I have come up with a new plan for recording podcast episodes that will greatly minimize Alex's intrusions, by about 95%. In a nutshell, we record them on Sundays so Josh can watch Alex in the living room while we record in the computer room. The past 2 epsiodes (#76 & #77) we recorded this way and came out rather well. So we're encouraging those of you who stopped listening to come back and give us a try again. And if you've never listened to "Luke & Carrie's Bad Rapport" before, now would be a good time to give us a chance. Thanks. :) (http://badrapport.com)
We've got lots of new news for the new year! So let's get right to it! :D ~ Luke Ski, 1/2/2013
- "WHEN YOU WISH UPON A DEATH STAR" #18 ON DR. DEMENTO'S FUNNY 25 OF 2012!
Listen to the Funny 25 countdown here: http://drdemento.com/online.html
2 years ago, I was shocked to see "It's Good To Be The King" hit #1 on Dr. Demento's Top Ten so late in the year, and that act alone put it on the Funny 25 that year. In case you hadn't noticed, I pretty much decided to take 2012 off from making new major songs, and I had early on resigned myself to the fact that I would not have a song on the Funny 25 this year. But in November, once I decided to answer the call of my fans and the good Doctor himself, I was crossing my fingers and was hoping that the same "King" thing would happen again. I believe Dr. D's words last month were that my Star Wars / Disney song "took the request page and ran off with it" or something to that effect, because it hit #1 after just one week, placing it at #18 on the 2012 Funny 25 countdown.
Thank you so much to Dr. Demento and my fans without whom this song would not exist, literally. Your incessant nagging brought forth what could be my next "Grease Wars". Thank you to the AMAZING Bob Emmet for the incredible music. Thank you Carrie Dahlby and Chris Mezzolesta for your fabulous vocals.
If you'd like to see "When You Wish Upon A Death Star" make the Top Ten in January, you can request it again here: http://drdemento.com/request . Be sure to include your email address so it counts towards the Top Ten!
"Green Eggs And Peas" by Cirque du So What (written by Devo Spice) was #24 on the countdown, so hooray for that as well. Congrats to Ookla The Mok for snagging 3 spots on the Countdown, including #1, as well as Devo Spice at #4, Carrie Dahlby, Flat 29, Steve Goodie, and Art Paul Schlosser!
For more fun overanalyzation of the Funny 25, check out my LiveJournal post about it: http://lukeski.livejournal.com/730883.html . It includes a list of all 18 of my songs that have made the Funny 25 over the past 15 years, which you can turn into a nifty iTunes playlist and/or mix CD!
- DEMENTIA RADIO INDIE GOGO FUNDRAISER http://www.indiegogo.com/dementiaradio - ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT! The website for the 24-hour online streaming comedy music station "Dementia Radio" has long been in need of a major overhaul. Meanwhile, web programmer Devo Spice found himself suddenly unemployed and looking for freelance web work. So "Blasted Bill" Putt, founder of dementiaradio.org, decided to start a fund raiser that helps two entities at the same time! The purpose of this new Indie Gogo campaign is to raise the funds to pay Devo Spice to overhaul DementiaRadio.org! Some of the new features the updated website will have include: a database of all songs played with links to purchase those songs and request them for "The Dr. Demento Show" & the MMT20, ratings, keyword list sorting functions, pages for individual shows, staff, and DJ bios, integrated podcast pages, current song playing display, pirate cast button for DJs, a Dementia Radio App, and more!
Some reward prizes have recently been added to the campaign. One of them is an exclusive download album of 8 tracks that are either very rare or have never been released anywhere else before! Contributing acts include the great Luke Ski, Cirque du So What?, Carrie Dahlby, Devo Spice, TV's Kyle, Insane Ian, and Carl Hatmaker. You can get that for a $20 donation, estimated delivery January 2013.
Their goal is to raise $4,300 by the end of the day on January 4th, 2013. Right now they have only raised $787. So if you have the means to do so, please donate something so we can help Devo Spice and help Dementia Radio! And please spread the word to your comedy music loving friends online! :D
- LUKE & CARRIE'S BAD RAPPORT Episode #077 - Mint Loaf Custody Hearing
It’s New Year’s Eve, and what better way is there to spend the evening and say goodbye to 2012 than to listen to some of the best comedy music of this year that slipped through the cracks and somehow never got played on any of our previous 2012 Bad Rapport episodes? Well, there’s probably a lot of better ways to spend the evening on New Year’s Eve, but tough, you’re stuck with awesome tunes by Smashy Claw, Kobi LaCroix, Morning Sidekick, Power Salad, TV’s Kyle, Consortium Of Genius, Ookla The Mok, Paul & Storm, Tenacious D, Devo Spice, and Cookie Monster. These tracks and many others played earlier this year on Bad Rapport are all fine contenders to be suggestions for nominations for the 2013 Logan Awards, so please head over to the website between January 1st through 14th and get your suggestions in while you still can! Also in the episode, Luke and Carrie tell us about their respective Christmas hauls (double meaning inferred), discuss geeky traditions of various holidays throughout the whole year, read some News of the Stupid, and there’s some more caricature stories which contain just enough sweet, sweet ignorance to make Luke Ski smack his forehead quite loudly, captured in glorius 128k digital stereo, so keep an ear out for that. Thanks for listening everyone, and we’ll talk to you all again in 2013! Episode Length: 2:28:03
REMINDERS:
- "STEALING LIKE A HOBBIT" MUSIC VIDEO FINALLY ON YOUTUBE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWHbX6kKu5s
You may not have heard about this, but "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is in movie theatres NOW! This seemed like the perfect excuse for me to get off of my old-media, outdated-business-model butt and finally post my music video for my most popular song of all time, "Stealing LIke A Hobbit" to YouTube. At the end, I added a plug for my new piece "When You Wish Upon A Death Star" at the FuMP, in the hopes to give that some more attention as well. So as you and your friends online get hyped for part one of "The Hobbit", please help get me some publicity by sharing "Stealing Like A Hobbit" with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and anywhere else that nerdy web traffic is generated. Thanks, and enjoy your second breakfast!
The song was also mentioned by the Houston Press: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2012/12/hobbit_songs.php?page=2
My annual overanalysis of Dr. Demento's Funny 25 Countdown, 2012 edition
DR. DEMENTO'S FUNNY 25 COUNTDOWN OF 2012: Listen to the episode now a http://drdemento.com/online.html Color coded key: Bold - track new to 2012 Orange ndash; track by or significantly featuring Luke Ski (* = cameo) Blue – FuMP track Light blue – track by a FuMP artist that wasn't posted at the FuMP #25 Google - Art Paul Schlosser #24 Green Eggs And Peas - Cirque du So What? #23 What It Was, Was Football (Part I & Part II) - Deacon Andy Griffith #22 Space Oddity - Jimmy Fallon #21 Wednesday - Dave & Brian #20 Pencil Neck Geek - Fred Blassie #19 The Smoke-Off - Shel Silverstein #18 When You Wish Upon A Death Star - the great Luke Ski #17 What Can I Do For You? - Garden Fresh #16 We Were Never Ever Actually Together - Eric Schwartz #15 Mr. Mxyzptlk/Bizarro World - Ookla The Mok #14 Pregnancy Is Strange - Carrie Dahlby #13 Menfriends - Flat 29 #12 Touch My Junk - Harry Shearer #11 Go To Bed - Ookla The Mok #10 Betty Rubble - Steve Goodie #9 Don't Roof Rack Me Bro (Seamus Unleashed) - Devo #8 Weird Al Yankovic For President - Sneaky Pete #7 Share It Maybe - Cookie Monster #6 Titanic - Ryan Hopak & The Happy Chinchillas f/ Dana Shaw #5 2012 The Musical (edit) - Premeow & Awesomedot TV #4 In The 80s - Devo Spice #3 Cheap Flights - Fascinating Aida #2 Garden Of Your Mind - Mister Rogers Remixed by John D. Boswell #1 Tantric Yoda - Ookla The Mok So this year, I had one song on the countdown (#18), and Cirque du So What also had one (#24, which was written by Devo Spice). The FuMP overall had 9 tracks on the list, plus a non-FuMP-posted track by Cirque du So What. If I had known "Peas" was going to make the Funny 25, I would have suggested posting it earlier this year, but I stand by our decision to post "Improv" and "ShoEboX", for they are awesome, dammit.
2 years ago, I was shocked to see "It's Good To Be The King" hit #1 on Dr. Demento's Top Ten so late in the year, and that act alone put it on the Funny 25 that year. In case you hadn't noticed, I pretty much decided to take 2012 off from making new major songs, and I had early on resigned myself to the fact that I would not have a song on the Funny 25 this year. But in November, once I decided to answer the call of my fans and the good Doctor himself, I was crossing my fingers and was hoping that the same "King" thing would happen again. I believe Dr. D's words last month were that my Star Wars / Disney song "took the request page and ran off with it" or something to that effect, because it hit #1 after just one week, placing it at #18 on the 2012 Funny 25 countdown. If George Lucas had done the sale earlier in 2012, or waited until the beginning of 2013, it would have had a great shot at climbing much higher. Who knows? Maybe it'll still make the Top Tens in early 2013. We'll have to see. :)
Thank you so much to Barry Hansen (that would be Dr. Demento for those of you just joining us). Thank you to my fans without whom this song would not exist, literally. Your incessant nagging brought forth what could be my next "Grease Wars". Thank you to the AMAZING Bob Emmet for the incredible music. Thank you Carrie Dahlby and Chris Mezzolesta for your fabulous vocals. And thank you Walt Disney and George Lucas, another two idols who inspired me to create things very early in my life.
Congrats to Ookla The Mok for snagging 3 spots on the Countdown, including #1, as well as Devo Spice at #4, Carrie Dahlby, Flat 29, Steve Goodie, and my man Art Paul Schlosser! I told them "Google" was going to make the Funny 25! Thanks Dr. D. for proving me right!
It occurred to me, I could take all of my songs which have appeared on Dr. Demento's Funny 25 countdowns, arrange them in chronological order on a CD, and release what would be a pretty killer compilation disc that would be a fairly good representation of my whole career. Clocking in at 76:48, here's what the track list would be...
Luke Ski on the Dr. Demento Funny 25 Countdown Compilation album track list: 1. "Insane and the Brain" (#7 in 1997) 2. "Kenny Was A Kid From South Park" (#6 in 1998) 3. "Fanboy" (#24 in 2000) 4. "Peter Parker" (#1 in 2002) 5. "Stealing Like A Hobbit" (#1 in 2003, #11 in 2004) 6. "The Spongy Dance" (#4 in 2004) 7. "Vader Boy" (#4 in 2005) 8. "You Don't Know Jack" (#2 in 2006) 9. "Dementia Revolution" (#20 in 2007, #23 in 2009) 10. "Holding Out For Hiro" (#12 in 2007) 11. "Jack Bauer" (#19 in 2008) 12. "Battlestar Rhapsody" (#14 in 2008) 13. "Too Much Stuff" (#2 in 2009) 14. "Marvel Poppins" (#22 in 2009) 15. "It's Good To Be The King" (#19 in 2010) 16. "Snoopy The Dogg" (#1 in 2011) 17. "WalkingSilly" (#13 in 2011) 18. "When You Wish Upon A Death Star" (#18 in 2012) So, if you're bored, make an iTunes playlist of that, and experience what me devoting the past 17 or so years of my life to comedy music has resulted in. All that and a Logan Award seem pretty frickin' sweet to me. :)
Thanks again everyone, and happy new year!
~ Luke Ski, 12/31/12
