Tom Smith Fake It Better, Granito This song contains language that may be objectionable to some listeners and may not be suitable for radio broadcast.
This one might be past its shelf life, but I thought it was fun. See, a few weeks ago, the world discovered Rob Granito -- I can't easily put a link in here, but just Google the guy and you'll find out all about him. And then listen to this parody of "Take A Letter, Maria" by R. B. Greaves. And wonder, once again, what the hell's going on inside my alleged mind. Lord knows I do. Oh, and the "explicit" is for one "shit".

This song is now available on the following CDs:

I heard this driving in to work before having read the description, and I kept thinking that this sounds like it's about a real guy. I just googled him. Now I'm wondering if I've ever seen his work at cons.

Devo -- in a manner of speaking, yeah....

Delightful! Yet disgusting! I can't believe you used the s-word, Tom... shame shame. Still... that man-crush is oh so requited! (please don't tell anyone)

This is a high quality comedy song, and I should know, being the creator of such songs as "White And Nerdy", "The Chanukah Song", "It's Business Time", "Tribute", and "I'm On A Boat".

Brilliant. This song has absolutely everything. Spotlights a little nook of goings-on in the fan world, the lyrics are perfectly composed, performance and production are spot-on. I'm jealous of the imagination and the on-key singing.

I had never heard of him either, so I Googled him. Great parody, Mr. Tom!

Well, I hadn't heard of Mr. Granito, or of the original song "Take a Letter, maria" until I read Tom'ssong description, above, but standing on it's own, Tom, your song here is really, really good. I didn't find myself laughing through it, but what it lacks in yuks, it makes up for with morals; I applaud you for denouncing plagerism, and encouraging aspiring artists to display their own work. It is nice to know that funny music can have a lesson behind it, and that you've just add one such song to the Fump's collection. Thanks for the music. Are you going to write another song about food next? I like those.

Nicely done, Tom! Guess I was the only one who heard of the guy.

Thanks, guys! DJ Seamus, yeah, I know it isn't a laugh-riot, but I love the original song (somewhat sexist though it is), and I thought the parallel rhymes all through it were so apt -- the only point where I diverged was the last line, because singing "wants to rip out your spleen" was smoother than "he'd like to...". And, yeah, I just yesterday got an idea for a Weird Al parody about hot sauce, "Frank's Two Thousand Degrees". Luke -- indeed, not to mention "You Don't Know Jack" and "The Ballad of Optimus Prime" -- oh, wait, those ARE yours.

@filkertom: This are a lot of laughs to be had in this song, if you know how his story has played out since the infamous exchange between comics writer Mark Waid and Granito that occurred at a convention in March that brought Granito's shame to light. It's provided a stream of continual amusement for me through the "Rob Granito is a FRAUD" facebook page. I have had a prior incident with Granito and deeply regret my naivete that caused me to purchase one of his bootleged art pieces.
