1996: The Worst Successful Song I've ever heard is recorded by the mega-successful, micro-talented, and mega-creepy R. Kelly.
1998: At an open mic in Los Angeles, a poet reads his poem with this awful song as background "music." I begin tinkering with the lyrics, and I make a mini-parody, with which I amuse the audience when it is my turn. The napkin upon which I write the lyrics disappears soon after. At the same time, auto-tune creeps into popular music.
2015: Desperate to come up with a new funny song, I search my poor aging brain for an idea. And the Parody Of The Worst Successful Song Ever floats back into my consciousness.
"And life was nothing but an awful song."
"Music": R. Kelly
Lyrics: SG and Carla Ulbrich
Backup vocals: Jenny Casey and SG
Instruments, vocal, arrangement,
production, complete waste of time: SG

I love it. That dreadful song was waaaaay overdue for a parody and you guys nailed it. Is this song really almost 20 years old? Now I feel old...

Can I just say that Jenny Casey makes an excellent backup choir?
