Recently, Keyboard Magazine, for reasons which escape me, interviewed keyboardist/singer/dreamy hunk Brandon Flowers of the Killers. How cool was this! I mean, the magazine normally covers boring old dead guys like Glenn Gould, Bill Evans or that Switched-On Bach gal who used to be a guy. And now Flowers, a guy whose prior media appearances have mostly been dedicated to self-aggrandizing and trash-talking other bands.
In the Keyboard interview, he waxed eloquent on how it's All About the Song, and doing Music That's Meaningful. Maybe some days it's just all about selling magazines.
Anyhoo, after several pages of his musical wisdom, he admonishes up-and-coming bands never to negotiate a deal with a lawyer provided by the record label. It's an evil business, he says.
It certainly is.

Man I've had this song in my head since this morning. Make it stop! Lawyers! Lawyers everywhere! ARGGH!

For those unfamiliar with The Killers, this is a parody of their song "Human." And a flawless one at that; Bob Emmet's productions are always, um, killer. As for the lyrics, they're spot-on and make much more sense than the weird-ass "Are we human or are we dancer?"

"Human" is my favorite, and only favorite, song on popular, top 40 radio right now. I can't wait to hear it wrung through the Sisyphus washing machine, and I shall post another comment upon doing so after work.

Thanks y'all. DJ, "wrung through the Sisyphus washing machine" is the coolest ever description of our contemptible process. Since you're a fan of the original, though, I need to pre-warn you that the OS has a horrendous clam (mistake) in the last chorus I chose not to replicate. Just couldn't bring myself to stick a G# in a G minor chord.

"that Switched-On Bach gal who used to be a guy." <-- Wendy Carlos

One of the best FUMP songs ever. I will feature it on this week's Dave White Presents along with an interview with the ingenious Bob Emmett.

I do know that you and Taylor have done a bang-up job with this. I will have to play this for my Dad....he's not a lawyer, but he too likes the original "Human". I now like your parody as much as the original; it's an open and shut case!

Thanks DJ and Dave! Austin, you are correct, sir.

Are we not men? We are dancer. Hmm. That didn't sound right. Back to the drawing board.

That was incredible on so many levels. Great song.

This is a good song. And good choice for a parody too.

Reminds me of The Island Of Dr. Moreau. Are We Not Men?
