Back in 1987 I was working in a studio in Gainesville Florida... I got minimum wage, plus the run of the place after hours. This song was recorded on a brand new Otari 32-track analog 2-inch deck, using real guitars and drums and strings and stuff. It took forever. Back then, the 60s were only 17 years in the past, but recreating those sounds was still very tricky. I remember late nights, running back and forth from the booth to the control room... helping David figure out the cello parts... trying to get the stupid vocal part just right... it was a great time to be 21 years old. *
Now the 60s are 40,000 years away. Damn, I am OLD.
So it was 27 years ago that I recorded this idiotic song that I'd written with my high school pal Andy. Damn, I am REALLY OLD. Anyway, I pulled this out in a song-circle at a Christmas party last year, and it got a lot of laughs. Crazy... cause no one there was Jewish. I had to explain that the word "pisher" means "little boy." Other than that, everyone seemed to get it. I have no idea why.
When I sang this song in 2013, I made up a story about George Harrison's dad being Jewish... and how George stole a bunch of songs from his dad, and changed the words... and how this is the original version. People seemed to believe me. I have no idea why.
This song has a nice little Star Trek reference in the bridge. And I use a stupid voice. So that's nice.
Music: George Harrison
Lyrics: SG and Andy Hirsch
Guitars, drums, bass, keyboard, vocals, production: SG
Cello: David Turner
* It's always a great time to be 21 years old... especially when you're 48 years old.

You nailed the sound of the song just right. And I love how the singer sounds.

I always loved this one, and especially how you got it to sound so indistinguishable from the original!
