Every year or so, someone with inside knowledge announces a date upon which the world will definitely end. So everyone hunkers down, and then the only thing that happens is every radio station plays R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)."
The apocalyptic event you actually can bank on is an annual occurrence called the Holiday Season. Thus, this.
Three Wise Guys:
M. Spaff Sumsion: Lyrics
Chris Mezzolesta: Vocals
Bob Emmet: Instruments, production, Christmas Easter eggs
More credits: The original song is by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe. "The Little Drummer Boy" is by Katherine Kennicott Davis. "Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire" is by Bob Rivers. "Forty movies with Will Ferrell" is from Fountains of Wayne's "A Road Song." "Christmas Karol" (with a K) is by Edmund Wells.

Ha ha, some guy on YouTube thinks God will flood the world on christmas, but God said he would not. Ha!

Everything from the clever lyrics from Spaff to Chris's vocals to Bob Emmet's music is great. Ten years from now, this song will still be on my December playlist assuming the world the world and mine haven't ended.

Thank you, Sdubow and artpaul and stevegoodie and JoeActor and goofygavinscherr and madmanOTL!
For the undoubtedly tiny number of you who didn't spend Christmas listening to FuMPcast #810 (featuring Steve Goodie! and Seamonkey!): I started tinkering with the lyrics for this in (checks notes) 2010(!) as a challenge to do a by-the-syllable rewrite of the REM song, never imagining it would see the light of (Christmas) day. HOWEVER! I mentioned it to Bob Emmet last summer in a conversation about another project we've periodically revisited (called The North Side of the Pole) (a whole nother tangent) and he started in on the music. And then Chris Mezzolesta (whose name you may recognize from EVERY OTHER SONG ON THE FUMP) agreed to tackle the stupefyingly intricate vocals. And then Bob, with the ball back in his court, and (like everyone else) having NOTHING ELSE TO DO IN LATE DECEMBER, went bells-deep with the music and production.
For me, it's a gratifying way to end 2025 (And I Feel Fine).
