As I'm sure everyone who frequents this site already knows all too well, The Dr. Demento Show comes to an end this weekend after 55 glorious years of mad music and crazy comedy. And what better way to pay tribute to such a momentous finale than by attempting to recap the entire history of the good doctor's show - and thus, ostensibly the entire history of comedy music itself - into an eight-and-a-half-minute parody of Don McLean's classic rock staple "American Pie?" From the recently-released compilation album Fruits of the Smogberry Trees: The FuMP's Tribute to Dr. Demento, this song was a true labor of love. Barret Hansen, aka Dr. Demento, has enriched my life and livelihood far more than I can easily express, but this song was my attempt at expressing it anyway, and I hope you all enjoy it. Above all, don't you ever DARE forget to STAY DEEEEEEEEEEMENTED!!!!

What a great final tribute to the man and the show that formed the soundtrack of so many of our lives. Can you tell us who all were singing with you at the end? Thank you, sir!

The group vocals on the last chorus are all listed in the description.

The final chorus alone is worth the price of admission.

Agree.

Incredible piece of songwriting here. I appreciate that Raichu A Song got a shout out too, thank you

This song has real "closing ceremonies at FuMPFest" energy.

You misspelled "MarsCon" there, Jace.

Devo Spice already used the word "masterpiece", so I am going to instead use the words "future winner of the Logan Award for Outstanding Parody Song". If the Doctor chose to end his last episode by playing this track, it would make all the sense in the world. You rocked the house and shook me to my core with these lyrics. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make this track a reality. I'm proud of you and I love you. You did it. Bra-fumping-vo.

This is an incredibly fun , brilliantly well crafted and cleverly written song encompassing everything hot on the Dr. D show . I really love the way you weaved names of songs into it. A great finale song that summarizes everything about the show. Yeah I really thing it is for sure a nominee for the Logan Awards in the song parody category. Happy to be in the chorus but Tony even without us singing the chorus which is so hooky you rock! I know the Dr. must love it.

I can't believe I just had goosebumps induced by the smartass behind "I Know You're A Fish."
Listening to this in slack-jawed wonder at its cleverness and craftsmanship and then suddenly I'm freakin' referenced in it.
Honored to be a part of the show's history, honored to be a part of this tribute to such. Good God, Tony, you knocked it out of the park with this one.

Wow, we are not worthy! Excellent tribute. Glad I bought the album so I can hear this over and over and over and over until I've had enough... which won't happen. :)

The song turned out great. Thanks for letting Diz participate. Great job

A truly fitting, remarkable, and incredible tribute, Tony. And I could hear how heartfelt it was in your final chorus before the other voices joined you. Simply wonderful.

OMG! What a panoramic overview of the history of the Dr. D. show! Going all the way back to Nervous Norviss and the Fuhrer's face. I actually remember most of this stuff, but I am thankful for the annotation so I can look up the stuff I didn't.
I admit I cried at the end of the song.

If there is a God, then you are doing his work by creating this tribute to Dr. Demento. I smell a Wacked-Out 40 hit for you with this, and your cover of "We Will All Go Together When We Go" as well. Great job, my friend!
