The COVID Shanty
by Austin Wolfclaw
Why should a shanty only take place when you are out at sea?
This is a shanty that takes place in the age of COVID-19
[CHORUS]
HUNKER DOWN, STAY AT HOME, HAVE YOUR MEETINGS ON THE TELEPHONE
IF YOU CATCH THE COVID CURSE, YOU MIGHT JUST DIE ALONE
Grandma went out for a stroll at the age of 93
She caught a cough, then she couldn’t breathe, and now she’s R.I.P.
(Chorus)
Tommy went to buy TP and he said “I’ll see you later”
One week later he’s in ICU hooked up to a ventilator
(Chorus)
My old man said his body was strong, it’ll take on any takers
Didn’t wear a mask when he sang at the bar, and now he’s met his maker.
(Chorus)
Peter asked me over Skype “Why should I get vaccinated?”
He later went to a concert, now his soul’s emancipated.
(Chorus)
Alvin knew about the risk, but he wanted to take his chances
Got the bug from his very best friend, with the Devil now he dances.
(Chorus)
Trying to keep my mom at home, her antics are problematic.
She passed the bug to 14 others; she’s asymptomatic.
(Chorus)
Heed these words I say to you, you might just save your life
Mind your space and wear a mask, you’ll make it through the strife
(Chorus x2)
